Saint Gilles Croix de Vie is a typical seaside town.
Located on France’s Côte de Lumière, Saint Gilles Croix de Vie is a popular seaside town. The town has several facets which make it particularly attractive to holidaymakers.
The fishing port is renowned for its delicious sardines.
The resort is also well-known for nautical activities (sailing, surf and ? school) and itsleisure marina.
With such a beautiful setting, it’s hard to know what to do first. Wander along the jetty, go meandering across the dunes, lie on the beach or head for the market to sample the local produce.

The fishing port
Saint Gilles Croix de Vie is famous for is blue fish, i.e. sardines and mackerel.
Some fifty boats cover the whole spectrum of fishing techniques: trawl, line, lobster pot, net, deep-sea etc.
Fishermen sell their catches in the modern harbour side market.
The leisure marina
Port la Vie has 1,200 deep-water moorings.
The reception is at the harbour entrance. Sailors are guided to a space and offered assistance with mooring, filling up etc.
Staff are pleasant and helpful and the facilities of high quality.
As the port is in town, everything is on your doorstep.

If you want a leisurely stroll through town, to sample local produce and generally take your time, then head for one of the four markets in Saint Gilles Croix de Vie:
Croix de Vie market
on Place Guy Kergoustin. Wednesday and Saturday morning, all year round.
Saint Gilles market
Place du Marché aux Herbes and Place du Vieux Port. Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings all year round.
Craft market
Quai du Port Fidèle – clothing, jewellery, fashion items, paintings, pottery, local produce – every Tuesday in July and August.
And lastly,
The evening market
Quai du Port fidèle and Place du Vieux Port..
Every evening from end of June to end of August. Wander around and you’re sure to find something to your liking.
Of course, there are also plenty of summer fetes and events organised by the town or local clubs and associations as well as the cinema and casino.
Take the children to the funfair (on Quai Rivière) open every day during summer.
