La Roche sur Yon

La Roche sur Yon, prefecture of the Vendée, is a nice city to visit during your stay in the Vendée

The city La Roche sur Yon was named the French capital of biodiversity in 2021.

From the mechanic zoo situated in the heart of the city  to the Haras de Vendée and visit the chocolate museum; discover the city formed by Napoleon!

Creations by François Delarzière, artistic director of the company ‘La Machine’, to whom we owe “Les Machines de l’île” in Nantes, has housed a collection of mechanical animals in the basins at the Napoleon square (place Napoleon). Come to the square to bring  the crocodile, dromedary, perch, hippo or one of the other animals to life. Control them from of the little islands, fun garanteed for all ages!

Visit in the heart of La Roche sur Yon ‘le Haras de la Vendée’ created in 1843 on a parc of more than 4 acres. It’s a cultural site dedicated to the equestrian arts.
Come to one of the workshops where they will explain you all the different stages of the creation of a horse riding performance. Take a look at the stables, board a horse-drawn carriage or attend one of the horse shows.

Tastefull excursion ; go to the chocolate museum of Patrick Gelencser!

Discover in a animated and playful way how chocolate is used throughout the centuries. You can see the chocolate makers in action and for the chocolate lovers among us you can participate at a chocolate test! An advice for the real chocolate fan! 😉

Get back to nature and walk or bike along the river through the vallée de l’Yon (the valley of Yon).

Visit the windmill of Rambourg in the beautiful Piquet valley, also known as ‘le chaos de Piquet’ valley (‘the chaos of Piquet’).

According to the legend there are crazy creatures living in the Piquet valley.

Watch out kids, you might come across one of them, when the are jumping out of the water or when they climb from rock to rock. These little goblins are hiding  in the Piquet valley.
